Vecinos de Campodón en Alcorcón buscan unirse a Villaviciosa de Odón
Residents of the Campodón neighborhood, one of the most isolated neighborhoods in Alcorcón, have started a petition to separate from this locality and officially join the neighboring municipality of Villaviciosa de Odón after months of denouncing the «neglect» the neighborhood is facing.
The movement, initiated under the slogan Let’s Go to Villaviciosa Now!, invokes Article 17 of Law 2/2003 on Local Administration of the Community of Madrid, which allows for the modification of municipal boundaries, and invites residents of the neighborhood to join through a signature collection.

The initiative has become visible through a series of leaflets being distributed in the neighborhood, accessed by Efe, where they advocate for «the advantages and benefits of belonging to Villaviciosa de Odón,» a town whose urban nucleus is closer than the urban center of Alcorcón.
In this regard, these residents claim in these leaflets that, by belonging to Villaviciosa de Odón, they would pay 25% less in property tax, 50% less in garbage fees, and even 100% less in parking fees, which they claim would result in an annual saving (in a townhouse) of «approximately 700 euros.»

Furthermore, they state that residents in this neighborhood «could benefit from a 20% increase in property value,» attributed to better efficiency in public services and fairer taxation.
Municipal sources have indicated to Efe that from the Alcorcón City Council, they are «aware of this demand» being primarily made by the Association of Neighbors Improving Campodón Urbanization, but they assert that they «have not received any official communication or specific request in this regard.»

«On the part of the city council, we reaffirm our commitment to improving this neighborhood not only through continuous contact with the residents of this neighborhood, both with the Neighbors Association La Unión, as well as with the Property Owners Community Villas de Alcorcón and with the Conservation Entity,» add these sources.
This commitment, municipal sources emphasize, «is demonstrated through tangible actions such as the creation of green areas, sports courts, and playgrounds from the Alcorcón City Council, as well as the improvements made in the neighborhood.»
«We are aware of the existing difficulties and problems, some of which are derived from the deficient maintenance carried out in recent years by the conservation entity before it was dissolved, although we want to reiterate the city council’s commitment to continue investing in this neighborhood,» they conclude.

Additionally, they have highlighted that the Alcorcón City Council is currently promoting the development of Retamar de la Huerta, an urban project very close to this neighborhood that «will further enhance the integration of this neighborhood with the rest of the city.»
This proposal comes after residents of Campodón have been denouncing the «neglect» the neighborhood is facing for months, especially regarding sidewalk maintenance, lighting, and green area upkeep.
The Integral Plan proposed by the PP included specific and urgent actions in the Campodón neighborhood as a whole, including the renovation and creation of accessible sidewalks on both sides of Prado Street, and the comprehensive improvement of public lighting throughout the area.
