The incident claimed the lives of two young firefighters from the Alcorcón City Council: Sergio and Jesús, aged 27 and 34. The latter was about to become a father in a few days.

«Devastated by the loss of two dedicated, professional colleagues from the great family of Alcorcón Firefighters. The city owes them recognition as great public servants in such a vocational and tough job as taking care of us. We owe them everything,» added the mayor, Candelaria Testa, through her social media.
The initial hypothesis being considered by investigators is that there was a collision between a high-end electric vehicle and another car, which sparked the fire and subsequent explosion in the parking lot. According to several witnesses, there were up to three explosions at the scene.
According to La Razón, the heat generated inside the facility by the fire may have caused the garage door to fall onto the cable supplying oxygen to the firefighters. Additionally, El Mundo reports that one of the deceased lost his life after returning to search for the other firefighter who died during the firefighting tasks.
